Friends of the Collections

Join 'Friends of the Collections'

The Friends of the Collections is a membership group open to all members of the Society and its Faculties, as well as to any member of the general public who has an interest in the Society’s ancient Hall and in the history of medicine and of the Society. The Friends hold lectures and social functions during the year to help raise funds for the conservation of material in the Archives which may have suffered from the ravages of time and adverse conditions. The Friends also help with the occasional purchase of items relevant to the history of the Society and members are encouraged to volunteer to help with projects and studies. Membership costs just £10 a year and Friends receive a regular newsletter and access to the events held for them in the Hall and elsewhere.

Friends of the Collections Historical Collections Research Grant

New collections grant scheme

The Friends of the Collections at the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries will award up to 2 grants each year, each of up to £500, to support researchers to use the Society’s collections.

The grants are intended to encourage researchers to use the collections either as the main focus of their project, or as part of a larger research proposal. We are keen to widen further use of the collections and engage with a wider range of researchers. Research projects that lead to a published outcome or those that use material that has previously been under-utilised are particularly welcomed. We interpret “publication” widely to include book, article, chapter, conference paper or poster, lecture, blog, exhibition, or film.
