Rhino Electives & Rhino Prizes

Rhino Electives

The Worshipful Society of Apothecaries is delighted to invite applications from UK medical students for sponsorship to support electives undertaken abroad.

In December 2017 the Society celebrated the 400th Anniversary of the granting of its Charter by King James I. To mark this occasion, the Society launched the Rhino Electives, offering support grants to medical students who will undertake their electives in countries with a native rhinoceros population.

Entry for applications open on the 1st October 2018, with a deadline of 31st December 2018.  Winners will be announced in February 2019. In line with the 400th theme, the awards will be worth £400 each.  In this second year up to 5 awards will be made.

Applicants must be:

  • within the three final years of their medical student training.
  • undertaking their electives in a country where there is/was a native rhino population.

The Apothecaries’ Prize

To mark the 400th Anniversary of the granting of its Royal Charter by King James I in 1617, the Society of Apothecaries established an appeal fund for making grants in three areas. One of these was the support of the newly established Apothecaries’ Prize.
