Tour of Christ’s Hospital School
Christ’s Hospital is one of the oldest boarding schools in England. In 1552 King Edward VI responded to an impassioned sermon on the needs of London’s poor to set in motion charitable measures to help. Christ’s Hospital was consequently founded in the old buildings vacated by the Grey Friars in Newgate Street and provided food, clothing, lodging and ‘a little learning for fatherless children and other poor men’s children’. The School moved from the City of London to Horsham in 1902 and is situated in 1,200 acres of stunning Sussex countryside. The School has over 830 pupils with an equal number of boys and girls.
The tour includes a historical walking tour of the School by pupils, School Band Parade performed by the School Band and pupils, an opportunity to visit the on-site museum, and a light buffet lunch served in the School’s beautiful Court Room.
Christ’s Hospital station is a short walk from the School and is serviced by half-hourly trains from London. There is plenty of parking on-site.
The number of places is limited to 20 and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Please feel free to invite one or more guests.
Refunds, minus a £5 admin fee (per ticket), will be offered, upon request, to anyone cancelling for any reason up to six working days before an event. After this time, no refunds are available.
The Livery Committee is the Society’s members’ social committee and is separate from the main Society Programme. It operates outside of the governance of the Society, and uses a money-pooling system for all of its events. Net receipts collected by the Society on their behalf are passed to the Livery Committee.
