Presenting The Audrey Few Lecture
To be given by Prof Mark Hannaford
The Audrey Few lecture was set up by a trust in the name of Audrey Githa Few in 1982 until 2005 by the United Kingdom Committee for the World Health Organisation of the United Nations. This trust provided grants to organisations including schools and charities linked to particular work in humanitarian medicine. The link between the money and the Apothecaries was that Ian Field and another civil servant at the Dept. of Health were appointed trustees to the fund which was sitting idly not being put to any purpose.
When Ian Field, a past committee member for the Faculty of Conflict & Catastrophe Medicine attended an executive meeting they were trying to find funding to set up the bi-annual lectures, he persuaded his co-trustee to transfer the fund for the use of the Apothecaries Faculty of Conflict & Catastrophe. The Faculty was grateful to have received some monies in 2004. This enabled the Faculty to establish an annual lecture programme with prominent speakers, hence furthering its objectives in the field of humanitarian medicine. Ms. Few had a keen interest in international issues, particularly those of the WHO.
