Crossness Pumping Station the Glory & Genius of the Victorian Age
The number of places is limited to 40 (20 per tour group) and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Please feel free to invite one or more guests.
Our tour will start with tea / coffee and biscuits, followed by an introductory talk on the sanitation crisis in London that led to the construction of Bazelgette’s revolutionary sewage system.
We then have a guided tour of the site and view its historic engines (not steaming for our visit).
Most of the tour is step free. The only area with steps is the upper floor of the Beam Engine House, which is a small part of our visit. Seating can be provided if needed.
After our tour we’ll have lunch on-site. This will be a selection of gourmet sandwiches, vibrant salads and other delicious finger food, plus cakes, crisps and fresh fruit.
Refunds, minus a £5 admin fee (per ticket), will be offered, upon request, to anyone cancelling for any reason up to six working days before an event. After this time, no refunds are available.
The Livery Committee is the Society’s members’ social committee and is separate from the main Society Programme. It operates outside of the governance of the Society, and uses a money-pooling system for all of its events. Net receipts collected by the Society on their behalf are passed to the Livery Committee.
