Conflict & Catastrophe Showcase: Panel Day
Held annually as part of the DMCC course and as one of our key showcase events for the Centre for Health Studies, the Panel Day will explore the emerging discourses around the ever-changing demands of the humanitarian workforce in current Conflict and Catastrophe settings.
With links to health professionals, military organisations, NGOs and humanitarian agencies worldwide, why not get a taste for not only what the Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine course has to offer, but how it can open up a world of opportunities for you.
Delve into interactive talks and hear first-hand experiences of experts and innovators in the humanitarian sector, alongside the perspectives of other medical services delivering international aid.
Previous speakers include Professor Tony Redmond OBE (Founder, UK-Med), Professor Richard Williams OBE (Royal College of Psychiatrists).
This year’s theme is ‘Presenting the additional Perspective: the Intersection of Non-medical Roles in the Field’.
Join us to hear from esteemed panellists Dr Linda Doull (former UN), Dr Mike Kemsley (UKHSA), Dr Rodney Reynolds (UCL) and other special guests for our final course day of the academic year, exploring the vital impact of non-medical actors in conflict and catastrophe settings. With key insights from anthropologists, logisticians, engineers and many more non-medical specialists as they share their experiences and perspectives in coordinating humanitarian aid.
The afternoon sessions include an interactive talk on Moral Injury from GP, expedition medic and filmmaker, Dr Sophie Redlin; followed by an applied ethical case study in Moral Injury from Surg Lt.Col Jedge Lewin. Recent alumnus, Dr Goher Rahbour will be sharing his experience of his deployment to Gaza in 2025, followed by former Master Apothecary and Course director, AVM Aroop Mozumder discussing his stewardship of the RNLI.
This will be a showcase event where our colleagues from other diploma courses, fellows and society members are welcomed to attend. If you would like to attend, and to bring a guest such as a partner, family member, friend or colleague, especially those who might be interested in enrolling next year, please let Matt Scudder (Academictraining@apothecaries.org) know directly via email. Attendees must be aged 16 or over.
This is free to attend.
