The Grand Tour

Event Details

During the eighteenth century in particular, The Grand Tour was the eldest son’s education to the elegance & sophistication of continental architecture, clothes & manners.  His purchases furnish the grand salons in England to this day.  Young men were exposed to Greek and Roman history, language and literature throughout school and university, and when they went abroad – usually chaperoned by a paid tutor, known as a ‘cicerone’ – this classical education was imaginatively played out before their very eyes.

To join us for this talk you will need access to Zoom.  Details will be sent to those who register.  A donation of £5 per log in, for the Master’s Charity, is suggested.

Closing date: 5 February 2023
