This meeting will be held on 22 February 2024 in a hybrid format, led by Helen Mosby and Andrew Papanikitas

This interactive course, held in person and live via Zoom with experienced tutors, will explore how creative writing can make moral issues come alive.

Participants’ own work will form the basis of this session, so please send us something in advance if you would like your writing to feature in it. We welcome pieces in any form – for example, fiction, stage or radio drama, magazine writing or even sketch comedy – which involve some question of medical ethics. This can be a dilemma you’ve faced personally or second-hand, for example through the media. Radio 4’s Inside the Ethics Committee is a rich source of material if you would like to take inspiration from there.

Writers on this course, now in its 6th year, have gone onto publish poems, short stories, and memoir, but whether you’re aiming for publication or are completely new to writing we are equally interested in what you have to say. Your piece can be a work-in-progress or a final draft; either way, it will provide opportunities for discussion both of literary technique and of the ethical issues you’ve explored.

Please send a maximum of 1,500 words (shorter pieces are very welcome with no minimum length) by January 6 to facultyhp@apothecaries.org In order to allow everyone the opportunity to read their work we may work on an extract rather than your whole piece during the session.

You are, of course, welcome to attend whether or not you have submitted a piece of writing.
